Parking Meters and other ideas to help curb panhandling are working their way to the Yakima City Council. A total of 12 'giving meters' are suggested as a pilot program, to be installed in downtown Yakima. The goal is to reduce panhandling. People can put money into these meters, and it will go directly toward organizations that provide services to the homeless population. The proposal goes through the Public Safety Committee on Friday.

Would you stop giving to pan handlers if you knew they were scam artists? Would you put money in these parking meters for charities that help the homeless. The idea of collecting money to address the real problem is one goal, also educating all of us that most panhandlers are not really down and out. What would you like to see done?
