Demolition on Wapato High School has begun as the district prepares to build a new $20-million dollar facility. Crews are making sure dust particles that may contain asbestos aren't spreading nearby. District spokesperson Mike Balmelli told our new partner KIMA Action News earlier this year that the school budgeted about $500,000 for the asbestos removal.

Crews are watering each piece as its torn down to prevent particles from spreading. One neighbor, Andrea Wilson, says she's happy to see the old building go. "I'm delighted about it. I'm really pleased. It's gonna benefit Wapato and all the other surrounding towns, having a new school. It's nice for the eye and good for the education," Wilson said.

The demolition is expected to continue through the summer months.
