If the Yakima City Council continues with plans for the Downtown Central Plaza an association calling itself Preserve Downtown Parking says it'll challenge the city in Yakima County Superior court. The group is threatening to take the city to court.
The group has hired an attorney and has sent a letter to the Yakima City Council saying two city ordinances bar the city from changing the parking lot to a plaza and only allows the city to build in the air space above the parking lot.
City officials disagree saying the city has provided equivalent parking in areas around the lot.
The letter from the association Preserve Downtown Parking says if the city goes forward with the plaza it will challenge the city in Yakima County Superior Court. The association is made up of Yakima citizens concerned about the removal of parking spaces downtown.
