A major fundraiser for the needy this Christmas season kicks off at Wrays Family IGA at 56th and Summitview on Thursday. It's called Operation Tin Cup. The campaign was the idea of community activist Dale Carpenter for years before health problems forced him to retire. Now, it's Yakima's David McKinney who’s taken on the effort to help the needy. He’ll spend 4 days, 4 hours and 4 minutes living in front of Wrays Family IGA beginning at 9am Thursday morning. McKinney will be collecting gently used or new toys and clothes, plus food and money to help those in need at the Union Gospel Mission and the Yakima Salvation Army.
