If you like to play on the water while drinking alcohol, be forewarned: The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission has announced that authorities in the state will be involved in a nationwide special emphasis campaign to target people who are operating boats while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The Yakima County sheriff's office will be part of Operation Dry Water June 27-29 at lakes around Yakima County, including Rimrock and Clear Lake.

Between 2004 and 2013, at least 64 people died in Washington state boating accidents in which alcohol use was a contributing factor.

Recent U.S. Coast Guard statistics confirm that boating under the influence is still the leading factor in fatal boating accidents, with 17 percent of boating fatalities being a direct result of alcohol use by operators.
