How did we get here?  A Gallup poll out yesterday found that 32 percent of Americans believe animals should have, quote, "the same rights as people to be free from harm and exploitation."It would seem that Common Sense is one of the major losses accrued during the great migration from the family farm to urban centers.  Anybody raised around the production end of agriculture and who has had to care for animals and interact with them through the full circle of life has a totally different and more realistic perspective in the animal kingdom.

In the poll sixty-two percent said instead that animals should have some protection, but that it's still okay to use them for the benefit of humans. So as a nation we still have a chance!

The Week noted that a Gallup poll from three years ago found that just five percent of Americans defined themselves as vegetarians.  The natural extension of that is how did we get to 32% fully on the side of the beasts?  AND what happens when that number reaches 51%?  Hope you like salad...eh, what's that? Plants have feelings too? Oh boy....
