Yakima Police Chief Dominic Rizzi says he's thankful a man wasn't injured or killed after he pulled out a gun and aimed it at officers at a Yakima motel on Sunday morning. Rizzi says officers were called to the motel on North First Street, the Yakima Inn, for a man threatening someone with a gun. When police arrived the man pulled the gun on officers and they opened fire. But the suspect wasn't hit. "There's a lot of statistics out there that will show the hit rate for officer involved shootings could be as low at 5% or as high as 30% it just depends on a number of factors." Rizzi says officers are human and even though they train for highly stressful situations they to get excited when confronted with a situation in which they have to fire on another person. The suspect that survived the Sunday morning shooting was taken into custody and is now facing assault charges in Yakima County Superior Court.
