Two officer-involved shootings are still under investigation by the Yakima police department but the chief says the officers can return to duty when they feel like they are ready.

Chief Dominic Rizzi says in the fatal shooting at a local car wash reported on Jan. 4 the state patrol is helping put together a report but he says the report will not be available for three months. The chief tells KIT, “all the information we have at this point shows the shootings were justified.”

The ultimate decision if they were justified however, will come from the Yakima County Prosecutors Office after they receive all the reports.

The other shooting at a Yakima mobile home on Jan. 15 in which a man was wounded is also under investigation by the Yakima police department.
