Mudslides covered the roadway in eight places with mud, rock and trees on a 10-mile stretch of North Cascades Highway and it looks to remain closed.

KNDO reports that the North Cascades Highway is closed for the unforeseeable future as the transportation department says the chance of more rain and mudslides will delay the crews in getting the highway clear.

The mudslides covered the highway near Rainy Pass and the 10-mile stretch is closed on the west side of Rainy Pass with the biggest slide about a quarter-mile long and 25 feet deep.

Intense rain from thunderstorms on August 10 have the crews still working with heavy equipment in order to get Highway 20 back open.
