Yakima has no new mayor after the city council tied 3-3 on giving the ceremonial position to incumbent Micah Cawley or Rick Ensey.

The council instead voted to wait to elect a mayor until after a seventh council member is appointed to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Sara Bristol this past December.

Council members Dave Ettl and Rick Ensey were the only two who voted against waiting saying it would place the mayor decision in the hands of that newly appointed person.

Kathy Coffey was elected as the assistant mayor replacing Maureen Adkison.

Council members have not set a date as to when the new council member will be appointed.
