Attitude and effort.  We talk about how important they are as keys to success in the face of overwhelming obstacles.  We also hear about excuses and blame and feeling entitled.  There isn’t room for both in your mental makeup.  Look what can happen when you choose the right one–and it is a choice, a decision YOU make for yourself and your future.

As reported by ABC News and the Huffington Post, a formerly homeless boy just graduated from  Loyola Marymount University after years of struggling and life on the street. Twenty-three-year-old Kenneth Chancey  spent his early years in the foster care system, but didn't have a place to stay as he got older and he actually had to sleep on buses. There’s an excuse to quit right there, right?

Not for Kenneth Chancey.

Despite the lack of a traditional support system, he managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA and played on his school's varsity track, swim and football teams while staying at Union Rescue Mission on Skid Row in Los Angeles.

The graduate already has received several job offers and  will be spending the summer working at the Inner-City Arts camp.  "I climbed here bare-handed," Chancey said. "And yes it was harder than most people who are given resources... parental support. But it's not impossible."

Not everybody is a Chancey but it does shed a different light on the perception of what homeless people can achieve.
