Flood Watch Issued for Yakima, More Briefs

KNDO
  • The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for areas in Goldendale, Yakima and Kittitas valleys despite not expecting the rivers to reach flood stage due to warming temperatures this week.

The flood watch starts Wednesday afternoon and continues until Friday.

National Weather Service officials as well as officials from the Yakima County Office of Emergency Management are concerned about flooding in rivers, streams and creeks.

  • Yakima County Sheriff Ken Irwin is retiring at the end of the year and the race for his seat has another candidate.

Rick Mottice has announced in a press release that he is filing for the sheriff’s seat. He worked for the Yakima County Sheriff’s office from 1988 to 2009.

Mottice will be running against Lieutenant Brian Winter, Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Changala and Tieton Police Chief Jeff Ketchum.
