Adam Yoest wants to be the next 14th District state representative.The Yakima man wants to win the seat being vacated by Charles Ross, who's not seeking re-election in November.

Yoest, a 29-year-old Republican, announced his candidacy on Monday. He is currently a Sgt. 1st Class with the Washington National Guard and a graduate student at the University of California working toward a master’s degree in public administration.

Yoest is also a Davis High School graduate and an alumni of Central Washington University.

  • A homeowner in Wapato burning weeds in the front yard lost control of the fire and it engulfed the man’s mobile home Monday.It happened at about 5 p.m. in the 800 block of North McKinley Road in Wapato. When firefighters arrived, everyone was out of the home and safe. No injuries were reported.

    The mobile home was destroyed, with the loss estimated at $40,000. Nearly two dozen firefighters from Yakima County Fire District 5 helped put out the flames.

    On Saturday a home in Sunnyside was destroyed after the homeowner lost control of a leaf pile burn in front of his home. Damage in that fire was $440,000.
