PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary believes if Bob Dylan had had a better set time at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, he might not have gone electric. It will be 50 years on Saturday since Dylan hit the stage there, plugged in an electric guitar and either delighted or horrified the people in the crowd, depending on their perspectives. Yarrow introduced Dylan that night and says Dylan was insulted because he was booked in the middle of the evening instead of in the headlining spot. Yarrow had suggested before the set that Dylan play some acoustic songs, then plug in and tell the audience he was working on something new. Dylan ignored him. Yarrow says he remembers Dylan saying to him afterward, "What have you done to me?" The festival has a standing offer to Dylan to come back, but he's only done so in 2002.
