The 114th U.S. Congress has convened and newly elected 4thDistrict Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.) has been named vice chairman of the Energy Subcommittee for the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

The Energy Subcommittee has jurisdiction over matters relating to non-defense federal research and development programs, laboratories overseen by the Department of Energy and commercial application of energy technology. The subcommittee also has jurisdiction over nuclear, solar and renewable energy; alternate fuels; nuclear waste management and oversight of the Department of Energy.

The committee chair is Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas.
