If you woke up smelling smoke it's because there's a new fire burning in Central Washington Today. A Washington State Incident Management Team is expected to arrive soon. Here's the latest news release from the forest service. No structures are threatened at this time.

Naches, WA— Naches Ranger District has one active wildfire burning in the Meeks Table area off of Forest Road 1500.

 The fire was discovered on September 12 at approximately 3:08 PMand reported at 15 acres.  The fire spread rapidly due to hot and dry conditions and is currently estimated at 500 acres.  The current and expected forecast has issued a red flag warning which can make suppression efforts more difficult.  An incident management team has been ordered to manage the fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Naches Ranger District is working on an official closure for Forest Road 1600 and Forest Road 1500 from the eastern forest boundary to Bethel Ridge.  District Fire Management asks that all public stay out of the fire area.
