A new set of trees are on the way to block the Yakima Speedway from passing traffic. The trees have been gone since last October. The city originally planted the trees along I-82 because drivers stopped to watch the races. However, the trees became a traffic hazard because limbs fell onto the interstate and were damaging sewage lines. Washington State Department of Transportation crews will work with the city to use more manageable trees and install a new privacy fence. The city says the new project will be completed this fall.
