A new fitness center has opened in Yakima in the Gateway Center.

It is called Planet Fitness and co-owner Linda Mullin says what is unique about the new fitness center is its size. The facility is more than 17, 000 square feet and includes what is called a judgment free zone helping people who are not expert in using equipment.

Mullin tells KIT News, “A lot of times people might feel intimidated at a normal gym where people are more apt to know how to do things at the gym. So what Planet Fitness does is create a judgment free zone where everyone can feel comfortable. We have unlimited fitness instruction that’s included with every membership.”

Mullin says the club at 120 N. Fair Avenue in the Gateway Center also features a “lunk alarm,” a purple and yellow siren on the wall used to remind people that grunting, dropping weights or judging others is not allowed.

The new club is hosting a ribbon cutting and grand opening party today with “The Biggest Loser” second-place winner David Brown. He will be at the event from 11:30 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. to help Planet Fitness celebrate the grand opening.
