The Yakima City Council has voted 6-1 to allow Mayor Micah Cawley to sign a contract with Don Cooper. The 61 year old man picked to become the next Yakima City Manager. Council member Kathy Coffee voted no saying she was concerned about Coopers' record while he worked as a City Manager in Florida. Cooper is expected to take the oath of office at the September 6th city council meeting. He’ll fill the shoes of longtime Yakima City Manager Dick Zais who retired in July after 32 years on the job. Coopers first order of business? Hiring police and fire chiefs for the city and getting up to speed with city finances.
