Work continues in west Yakima to build the new Yakima Rotary Aquatics Center and new YMCA planned at Chesterly park on 40th Avenue. YMCA Executive Director Bob Romero says construction is on schedule. "We're at about 30 percent completion and still on track to open in the fall of 2019."
The city and the YMCA have joined forces to create the center at the park. Plans for the center include a lazy river, lap pool and warm water therapy pool coupled with a new ymca at the park. Funding comes from both the city of Yakima and donations including $3.3 million from the Yakima Rotary Club.
The current YMCA facility will stay open in the downtown area when the new YMCA opens in west Yakima next year.
