WASHINGTON (AP) — It's a spaced-out Kickstarter project. The National Air and Space Museum wants to raise a-half million bucks to conserve the spacesuit Neil Armstrong wore on the moon. The campaign began yesterday, marking 46 years since that first moonwalk in 1969. Armstrong's spacesuit is deteriorating and hasn't been on exhibit since 2006. While the spacesuit was made to withstand the rigors of space, it wasn't made to last for decades. The museum plans to display it for the 50th anniversary of Armstrong's moonwalk in 2019.
