I like many different kinds of music genres. Oldies, country, rock, pop and classical.  If you don't like classical of some kind, then you have never experienced and  opera. It is unfortunate that the youth of today isn't taught such appreciation.  The music of today got some of their inspiration from the classics. Especially opera. Most of them just don't want to admit it. Take Queen, for example. A prime example of modern-day opera, with their own twist. Today (Feb. 8) we celebrate the music and the singing of operas! Opera has been around since the 16th century. It has brought joy and sorrow in a happy way for this long.

Here are our favorite operas. Tell us what your favorite operas are in the comments below.

La Boheme is our favorite opera. I got to see it many years ago at The Met in 1986. I cried and laughed and listened. I read the guide a little. Then cried and laughed and enjoyed every single minute of it. I was memorized by such talent. The event is one that I will never forget.

Madame Butterfly comes in a close second. It is a short three-act opera and will leave you without words for hours. It is quite amazing!

"War and Peace" is one of the most powerful operas. It leaves you with fulfillment, emptiness, happiness and sadness. It has it all.

"Bluebeard's Castle" is equally powerful as "War and Peace."

"Le Grand Macabre" is fascinating. It is not safe for work, but it is incredibly written and joyful in many ways.
