Throughout the Yakima Valley and across the nation, communities will be throwing a “going away party for crime” Tuesday during the annual National Night Out.  Nikki Sandino, a Community Services officer with the Yakima Police Department says it's a perfect time to meet your neighbors and start a block watch program in your neighborhood.

The Yakima Police Department holds a Block Watch monthly meeting at the Yakima Police Department. The meeting is set for the second Monday of every month beginning at 6:00 p.m. More than 75 Block Watch programs are already in existence in the City of Yakima.
The Yakima Police Department will kick off Tuesday with activities at the Starbucks store at 5906 Summitview from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Yakima Police and city council members will be attending the event. The Bearded Monkey Cycle Shop on East Nob Hill is hosting a National Night Out party from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The shop is located at 18th and West Nob Hill.
