I had my annual physical with my primary care doctor on Monday and all I can say is "Wooo Hooo!"

Two years ago my annual physical eam results spurred me to take action about my health. I was morbidly obese, pre diabetic and hypertensive. My doctor showed me my numbers and said "You will be a diabetic next year if you don't do something about it."

That was enough. I had to do something.

So, I researched bariatric surgery options, found a surgeon in the Tri Cities and went from there. I had successful Lap Band surgery in 2013 and my health started to improve with dramatic weight loss, better eating habits, and more exercise.

My physical last year showed lots of improvement. I was no longer pre diabetic, losing weight and had better blood pressure. A follow up visit last summer saw my doctor take me off of hypertension meds. When I made my appointment for this year's exam, I wondered how things would be this year.

I had my annual physical Monday morning and the results are in.

I am disgustingly healthy.

Blood sugar, down again. Cholesterol, great. Weight, down from last year. Blood pressure, fantastic.

One bummer. I gained some weight of the holidays. Too many cookies. My doc wasn't concerned.

Goal for the year? Lose enough weight so that with my body mass index I won't be classified as obese anymore, merely overweight.

After that, I'll really look forward to my physical next January!
