Music Makes Life Better and Less Painful – Dave’s Diary

Tell me if you’ve heard this before.   Music has Charms to sooth a savage Breast,To soften Rocks, or bend a knotted Oak. I’ve read, that things inanimate have mov’d, And, as with living Souls, have been inform’d, By Magick Numbers and persuasive Sound. Not on the tip of your tongue eh?  Who can blame you. It was coined by William Congreve, in The Mourning Bride, 1697.   But it basically says music is amazing!

From the poet to the proof.

In an experiment, scientists at the University of Utah Pain Research Center measured the effect of music on people while they received painful shocks in their fingertips. The astonishing results: Participants reported decreased pain as they became more absorbed in the music.

Fascinating.
