How many times have you been told -- by a woman -- that women are better “multitaskers”? Ha! I laugh at that as I walk and chew g ... wait, I can’t do all three at once. Anyway, I hear it all the time, but it might not be the point of pride the little lady thinks it is.   According to a new study published in the journal PLOS ONE, watching TV while surfing the web and being on your phone can cause your brain to shrink. An online article from U.S. News & World Report says “Researchers from the University of Sussex found that people who used several types of technology at the same time had less gray matter, which helps with muscle control, sensory input, decision making and self-control.”

Here’s how it worked -- volunteers who claimed to be multitaskers were brain-scanned, and they showed a deficit in certain areas of gray matter, which has been linked to depression, anxiety and poor impulse control.

The point of the whole deal is that multimedia multitasking is becoming more common and perhaps necessary today, and there is increasing concern about its impacts on our cognition and social-emotional well-being says the researcher team leader.

It doesn’t mean you brain will shrink right before your husband or boyfriend's eyes (insert joke here at your own risk), but the scientists say you might want to think about once in a while giving your undivided attention to whatever activity you’re doing, rather than multitasking all the time.

Radio is a real multitasking endeavor and clearly that says it all! Good morning, Yakima -- goodbye, gray matter! We sacrifice for YOU!
