A Yakima woman who police say starved her 8-year-old twin daughters pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of third-degree assault of a child and third-degree criminal mistreatment.

The mother, 28-year-old Kai Martinez, faces 10 years in prison when she is sentenced May 20.

Her attorney is trying to work out a deal that would allow her to spend half her time in jail and half her time in drug treatment.

Yakima Police say the girls have recovered and are living with family members. The girls weighed 44 pounds each when they were found in a Yakima home in February.
