The Yakima city council Monday approved the use of $50,000 in general fund money to increase participation in summer youth programs in the city. Yakima city council member Avina Gutierrez and Dulce Gutierrez called the meeting Monday. Council members decided the money will be used to increase participation in playground programs at Miller and Kiwanis parks. But the city is also working with the Yakima School District and the Yakima Police Athletic League among other programs in Yakima that keep kids busy in the summer.
Specifically the money will allow 200 additional kids to be part of youth programs in the city this summer.
