Yakima city officials are planning more events for downtown Yakima this year and next year. City Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins says that starting Sept. 5, the Lunchtime Live concerts resume at Performance Park downtown. Then he says they'll get ready for the Christmas season, when the Light Up The Plaza event and tree lighting ceremony happens in November.

Next year, Hawkins says, "we're going to bring back the Downtown Summer Nights concert series. Our Blues and Brews event will be back and we're working on a country Americana event next year."

Hawkins says the city is also planning an ambitious kids event next spring focused on families, games, art and fitness. He says all the events this year and next are designed to draw more people into the downtown area.
