Brush fires are common at this time of year, but they can be dangerous. Firefighters battled a number of brush fires up and down the valley over the weekend. The largest was in the Sunnyside area. The nearly 300 acre blaze near state route 241 at the end of Washout Road was contained on Saturday afternoon. The cause is unknown. Firefighters urge citizens to be careful with anything that could cause a fire, including fireworks.
