American workers aren't taking all the vacation days they're entitled to from work, with an Expedia survey finding that the average worker earned 14 vacation days this year, but will only take 12 of them, about the same as last year. CNNMoney calculated that those two days add up to 226 million unused vacation days this year and $34.3 billion worth of time. Expedia say the reason most gave for not taking all their days it that they couldn't afford to travel, with lack of planning coming in second. There's also a feeling among workers that in the current precarious economy with high unemployment that they want to be visible in the office in hopes of avoiding being laid off.
