As expected, the Yakima County Commissioners today extended a moratorium on the sale and production of marijuana. The commissioners heard from a number of citizens, most who want the commissioners to allow for the sale and production of marijuana as allowed by Iniative-502.

However the commissioners are considering a ban in the unincorporated areas of Yakima County.  The commissioners have already stated they support a ban, but Commissioner  Rand Elliot says more time is needed before a final vote is made on a ban. "To give our staff time to show us what changes would be necessary to our code if we chose to ban marijuana in the unincorporated county, a decision has been made but we have to know both sides of the argument before we make that final decision."

This is the second moratorium by the commissioners.  The City of Yakima has already passed a ban on the sale and production of marijuana.
