The former Yakima mill site along I-82 will be the focus of a study session at Yakima City Hall this morning.

Yakima Mayor Micah Cawley says the city council will get an update from city officials about the ongoing work to develop the site that officials know has a lot of potential. But Cawley says a lot of environmental work still needs to happen before it is ready for development.

Cawley says they want to develop the site in a way that it would not hurt the development underway in downtown Yakima. “We are just looking for a way to position the city to take advantage of the growing economy and exciting plans underway in Yakima without hurting the downtown and other developments.”

The study session starts at 10:00 a.m. this morning at Yakima City Hall.
