Diabetes runs in my family.  My mom lost a sister and a brother due to complications from diabetes and I’ve been on the “watch list” for a while.  It seems to be a problem on the rise so Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital will be offering a no charge diabetes screening on Saturday, Nov. 8.One in 11 people in Yakima has been diagnosed with diabetes, and 1 in 3 has pre-diabetes, which means they have higher than normal blood sugar levels. Signs of diabetes include frequent urination, thirst, hunger and fatigue.  Stop by Memorial’s screening if you are experiencing those symptoms or believe you may be at risk for diabetes.

There also will be educational programs about nutrition and a diabetes walk.

This event is offered from 8 a.m. to noon at Memorial’s community education center at 2506 W. Nob Hill Blvd. in Yakima.
