Did you know that 1 in 11 people in Yakima have been diagnosed with diabetes? And 1 in 3 has pre-diabetes, meaning they have higher than normal blood sugar levels.

Yet diabetes can be prevented and the first step is to be active.

Memorial Hospital Community Education is organizing a family walk to build awareness about diabetes prevention and to promote physical activity in the valley.

The public is invited on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Franklin Park located at 2101 Tieton Dr.

The hospital says to look for Memorial’s blue tent next to the swimming pool.

Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and the first 200 people get a free sports bottle.
