Yakima County is looking for public input to help create a countywide system of interconnected trails for public use.

Planner Jeff Hagler says the 2014 Community Trails Plan focuses on improving trail routes in unincorporated areas of Yakima County.

It’s for people to come and give us their input. It’s an update from the 2008 plan.

Hagler says goals of the plan include creating a countywide system of safe, efficient and interconnected trails for people to use.

The goal is to have proper planning, design, construction and maintenance of trails, roads, sidewalks and bike lanes. They also want to add more public safety, education and law enforcement to the trails in the county.

Thursday's meeting is planned at the Zillah Civic Center at 7 p.m. A similar meeting was held in Yakima Wednesday night.
