A monument over the grave of Yakima's Medal of Honor recipient SSG. Jack Pendleton was unveiled at Tahoma Cemetary during a special ceremony Wednesday morning. Pendleton died in October of 1944 in Bardenberg, Germany while voluntarily leading his squad in an attack against an enemy machine gun. He was 26-years-old when he died. Today he was remembered as a hero.

U.S. Army Sgt Major Ramon Dang helped to gather donations to make the monument possible. "This day isn't about me or this monument this day is about how we should properly recognize and war hero and a local man from Yakima."
The large black granite monument is located in the middle of the cemetary away from other military graves. Pendleton is buried next to his mother in the family section. The monument was funded by donations from Yakima residents and military organizations like the VFW and the American Legion.
