A large community art project is planned above the soon to be completed Martin Luther King Jr. underpass.

John Ball, Director of the Yakima Valley Museum, is a member of the Yakima Arts Commission who helped select the bins of light art project to be installed above the underpass.

Each fruit bin will be backlit and feature familiar fruit labels from the valley.

Kind of the neat thing about this is that the lights will be motion sensitive so as the trains pass the boxes will stack and unstuck.

The Bins of Light Art project is part of the $10.6 million project that started earlier this year. The underpass is expected to open in mid July.

The art project will be installed later this summer or early next year.
