The Mariners will wear throwback green jerseys for Monday and Friday home games this season, the team announced on its Twitter page.

According to the team, several players requested that the jerseys be brought back after they were worn in a throwback game last season.

The green jerseys were originally worn in the 1990s.

The Mariners apparently considered a green-billed cap to go with the throwback jerseys.

"While we wore them along with the green jerseys on our Turn Back the Clock Day last year, the response on the caps wasn't nearly as positive as it was for the jerseys," Kevin Martinez, vice president for marketing, told Uniwatchblog.com.

"However, we will see how it plays this year. If there is a demand, we could add the two-tone cap as an alternate in 2012."

The Mariners team store is carrying throwback green jerseys for Ken Griffey Jr. and Ichiro Suzuki for $179.99.
