A local Yakima elementary school teacher will be honored by the Seattle Mariners on Sunday when they face the Tampa Bay Rays at Safeco Field.

Fourth-Grade Teacher Amae Merrill has been selected as a Washington School Employees Credit Union Teacher of the Week and will celebrate along with 23 other teachers in a suite at the stadium.

KAPP TV reports that each educator that is selected receives two free tickets to a game in a suite as well as a $500 classroom grant.

The Elementary's motto is "Expect Success, Nothing Less" and Merrill tells the station that she wants to see her kids grow and shine.

Merrill also says she's a big Mariner fan and will use the grant to upgrade the technology in her classroom.

Merrill was nominated by Carrie Beitel.
