A Yakima man is sitting in the county jail today after police say he attacked his estranged wife, set her garage on fire then walked out from the 2 hour standoff partially clothed. Yakima Police were called to the home on the 700 block of N. 6th Street around 3 p.m. Thursday. Officers were able to get the suspects estranged wife out of the house before 60-year-old John McGinty barricaded himself inside and refused to leave. Police Spokesman Mike Bastinelli says after McGinty dumped flammable liquid on parts of the home and set it on fire they were surprised that he walked out alive. Bastinelli says at one point "there was discussion with the fire department about how we were going to retrieve the body." Fire crews were able quickly put out the fire. Paramedics took McGinty to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. But he was transferred to Harborview Medical Center Thursday night because of his injuries.
