The Yakima County Coroner released the man's name and results of his autopsy on Thursday.

Information released by Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins identified the man as 27-year-old Anthony Laviolette. Hawkins says that Laviolette died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, deputies in Gleed attempted to pull over a now known to be stolen car. The driver, Laviolette,  refused to pull over which led to a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

The chase ended when the car wound up in a ditch on the side of U.S. Highway 12 at Ackley Road. As a deputy approached the car, Laviolette accelerated toward him. Fearing for his safety, the deputy opened fire, killing the Laviolette as the deputy was struck and knocked to the ground by the car.

The Washington State Patrol is now investigating the incident.
