SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A jury found a man not guilty of beating a 2-year-old girl to death.

The Spokesman-Review reports Jason Obermiller was found not guilty Wednesday of killing Adalynn Hoyt despite numerous witnesses testifying Obermiller was the last one seen with Hoyt the night before she was found dead Sept. 12, 2016.

Prosecutors argue Obermiller killed her late Sept. 11, but defense attorneys say the girl likely died the next morning, long after Obermiller had left the home, which was confirmed by cellphone records.

Despite the jury's verdict, Obermiller will not be released from jail. He is facing federal drug charges and is also being held for possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, seven charges of second-degree burglary and several traffic misdemeanors.
