A man is facing charges for a brush fire in Selah that burned more than 500 acres last week.

Selah Police say Alejandro Olivarez admitted to lighting a luminary and releasing it to rise. After losing sight of the luminary, he went to find where it had landed. That's when Olivarez found the hillside at Lookout Point on fire.

Olivarez called 9-1-1 to report what happened, and when officers arrived, he told them what had taken police.

Olivarez was taken into custody on an unrelated matter. He will be charged today in Selah Municipal Court. He’s facing charges of second-degree reckless burning.
