The Seattle police arrested a 63-year-old man who shot repeatedly at two men who allegedly broke into the man's van as he slept inside.

Police went to Rainier Valley at 12:30 a.m. today after reports of shots fired. When they arrived the man said he was sleeping in his van when someone broke in. He told police he grabbed his gun and yelled at the intruder, who ran away.

Police say the man got out and chased the intruder while firing his gun. The intruder jumped into the passenger side of waiting car and the man kept firing at the intruder and the driver.

Later, a 21-year-old man went to Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound. The alleged intruder went to Swedish Hospital for a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police say the man in the van, who was not immediately named, was arrested because his response to the break-in went beyond self-defense.
