A 28-year-old man faces assault charges in Yakima County Superior Court after Yakima Police say he struck a pastor with a guitar at a Yakima Church on Sunday. Police say the man was asked to leave the Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church on South Eighth Avenue but refused. They say he then grabbed a guitar on the stage and struck the 53-year-old pastor in the back during the sermon.

The pastor was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The 28-year-old is being held on a charge of second-degree assault, possession of a controlled substance and third-degree malicious mischief.
