Yakima's North First Street is an important entrance to the city and it is about to get a major facelift. Yakima City Strategic Projects Manager Joan Davenport says the city is getting nearly $3 million from the federal government to resurface the street, fix drain issues and improve sidewalks from the Highway 12 interchange down to N Street. That effort includes improved lighting, benches and banners and cleaning up areas. It is phase one of a project that is expected to change the face of one of the major entrances to Yakima. The work is expected to start this spring.
