When it comes to shopping, which means more to people in the Yakima Valley – Honoring The Red White & Blue of American made or grasping for the green of cold hard cash?   Exactly.

It’s one thing to talk about patriotism but it’s quite another to back it up at the cash register. A new Associated Press-GfK poll found that Americans by a large margin prefer to pay lower prices instead of paying more for made-in-the-U.S. products.

Mom used to say “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” and you can add to that the road to Walmart.  The survey shows 75 percent said they'd like to buy goods made in the U.S., they also said they are often too expensive or hard to find.

When asked to choose between $50 pants made overseas and a $85 pair made in the U.S., 67 percent said they'd buy the cheaper pair, compared to 30 percent who'd buy the more expensive American pair.

Apparently the weight of your wallet doesn’t outweigh the beauty of a bargain  because people in higher-earning households with incomes of more than $100,000 a year just as likely as lower-income Americans to go for the cheaper price.

Just nine percent said they only buy American.
