Lynnwood Woman Who Survived Attack, Arson Meets Her Rescuers
LYNNWOOD, Wash. (AP) — A Snohomish County woman who nearly died during an arson and assault in 2014 recently was reunited with the firefighters who rescued her. Brenda Welch went to Lynnwood Fire Station 15 on Friday for a meeting both she and the first responders had been anticipating.
KOMO-TV reports firefighters found Welch on the floor of her garage and pulled her to safety.
She suffered skull fractures, a broken nose, and burns across 20 percent of her body.
Firefighters continued to put their lives in danger that night after rescuing Welch, because they thought her daughter was in the burning house.
David Morgan, who is Welch's ex-husband, was convicted of attempted murder, arson, and assault last month in connection with Welch's attack.
The lead investigator on the case for Lynnwood Police was also at the reunion. Det. Brian Jorgensen said he didn't expect to have a chance to celebrate Welch's rescue and see her meet the people who saved her life. He called her survival was miraculous.
