SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Washington Apple Commission is projecting that this year's crop will be the largest in state history.
The commission says Washington could have a crop of 140 million bushels this year, breaking the record of 128 million bushels set in 2012. A bushel weighs 42 pounds.
The state typically produces an average crop of 110 to 112 million bushels, with up to 35 percent of that exported.
The commission says it would like to increase exports by a quarter to deal with the larger crop.
Apples are the state's largest farm product, followed by wheat, milk, potatoes and hay.
